Conditioned Avoidance Response:-The subject is placed in a two-compartment shuttle box and first presented with neutral conditioned stimulus (CS) such as a light or tone. A short time after this the subject receives an aversive unconditioned stimulus (US), a foot-shock from which it can escape by moving to the other compartment. Following a number of CS–US pairing, the animal will moved upon presentation of the CS and avoided the shock. The avoidance response in animals treated antipsychotic drugs (APD) is absent; whereas the shock-escape response is unaltered. All APDs induced this disruption of the avoidance response; however drugs such as anxiolytics and antidepressants lack this effect.
