Release issued 15th March 2001
CLIMEST® Dot is a very small patch developed by Ethical Pharmaceuticals South America SA for continuous release of 17 beta-estradiol following application to the skin.
The Transdermal Delivery System is prepared to remain in place during a 4-day period. Transdermal products have the considerable advantages of offering a non-invasive parenteral route for drug therapy. In a bioavailability study carried out in postmenopausal women, CLIMEST® Dot, with an active area of 7 cm2, has shown to offer estradiol plasma levels similar to those reached with the administration of Vivelle Dot 50 mcg/day.
CLIMEST® Dot is mainly indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe symptoms associated with the menopausal syndrome; female hypogonadism or castration; primary ovarian failure; and atrophic conditions caused by deficient endogenous estrogen production, such as atrophic vaginitis and kraurosis vulvae.
CLIMEST® Dot has a very good adhesion to the skin and an excellent cosmetic aspect. Contact with water, as in bathing, does not affect the device. Ethical Pharmaceutical South America SA has a long experience in the design and development of transdermal systems; specially, those destined to hormonal replacement therapy.
CLIMEST® Dot is still available for license in certain territories.
