Alcon Acquires Endure Medical Systems Offering Advanced Technology Ophthalmic Microscopes
FORT WORTH, Texas, July 23, 2012 - Alcon, the global leader in eye care, announced today the acquisition of Endure Medical Systems, a company specialized in advanced technology surgical microscopes. Endure Medical Systems, based in Cumming, GA, designs, develops and manufactures innovative products and accessories specific to surgical microscopy. Endure's LuxORTM ophthalmic surgical microscopes complement the Alcon surgical portfolio and further strengthen our partnership with customers to deliver comprehensive, consistent visualization with user-friendly functionality during cataract surgery.
"The Endure Medical Systems full-line of ophthalmic microscopes enhances our cataract surgery portfolio, offering an innovative solution for surgeons to further improve cataract surgery outcomes. Cataract surgeons will appreciate the depth of perception and detail that these ophthalmic surgical microscopes with a unique illumination technology provide," said Stuart Raetzman, Head of Global Commercial Strategy, Alcon.
Alcon will immediately begin marketing the LuxORTM ophthalmic surgical microscopes as part of its cataract surgery portfolio in the United States. Alcon plans to bring the benefits of these ophthalmic microscopes to surgeons worldwide in a phased roll-out slated for 2013.
Endure's ophthalmic surgical microscopes feature ILLUMIN-i® technology, that allows for a consistently stable, high quality red reflex that redefines the visual area. The red reflex zone is six times larger than conventional microscopes. In addition, this technology provides exceptional quality of visualization and detail recognition and contrast, while offering greater depth of focus.
"This acquisition is part of Alcon's strategy to deliver innovative technologies in eye care, to help improve ophthalmic surgery for both surgeons and patients. It expands Alcon's portfolio into the ophthalmic microscope segment of the market, and we are excited to bring the benefits of these ophthalmic microscopes to surgeons around the world," added Raetzman.
