Ahmedabad-based Intas Biopharmaceuticals today said it has signed an MoU with the Gujarat government for setting up a Rs 160 crore facility at Sanand in Gujarat. "We have acquired 23,000 sq metres of land at the Matoda village in Sanand and have initiated the Engineering Design Phase for the project," Intas Biopharmaceuticals, Executive Director, Mani Iyer, said in a release here. The facility, coming up near Ahmedabad will be dedicated to Monoclonal Antibodies (MAbs) and will take up large-scale manufacturing of the recombinant product in phases, it added. IBPL is awaiting certain necessary regulatory clearances and registrations from the state government, Iyer said. "We are seeking government approval for utilising an alternative source of energy for fulfilling our power requirements for this project," he said. The major thrust areas for IBPL are biopharmaceutical products with a special focus on Oncology (Cancer). The firm has fully integrated operations at Ahmedabad. "Commercial production at the proposed MAbs facility is likely to commence by 2011. We have initiated the necessary technical studies for the project," IBPL s Chief Technical Officer, Dhananjay Patankar said. For research and development activities, the company is developing Novel Drug Delivery System for proteins and a cloning facility. IBPL is introducing novel production platforms as well as developing MAbs and recombinant products like cytokines, hormones and blood factors.
