TAIPEI, Taiwan, 15 April, 2009 / GenMont Biotech Inc. / Two probiotic strains “GM-080” and “GMNL-33,” developed and marketed by the Taiwan firm GenMont Biotech Inc., (TWOTC: 3164) have been approved by regulatory agencies in China, and can now be used as additive ingredients to food products in that market, according to an announcement by the company this week.

These two strains have been widely applied by GenMont to different types of probiotic related products commercialized in Taiwan as health foods. Both strains can be used not only as food ingredients, but also as stand-alone products. Furthermore, GM-080 is a particularly important product for the company, developed and marketed as a specialized treatment for allergy related diseases. Expectant mothers can use this unique strain to prevent their babies from having allergic diseases during the pregnancy.

The two strains were approved by China's "Management Method for Food for New Resources" law, under the country's Ministry of Health regulations at the end of 2008. With this approval now obtained, GenMont is currently in negotiations with some of China's leading food companies to have the ingredient added to health foods for sale on the local market.

Of the only fifteen probiotic strains having so far received approval under this regulation in China, two of them are from GenMont.

"With this approval, GenMont has confidence and also excited to provide health benefits to the large China market. Moreover, we expect more of our probiotic products to gain approval by Chinese regulatory authorities in the future" said GenMont President Chen Ken-te.

In additional news, GenMont also announced that on March 9th it had signed a research development agreement with the National University of Singapore as well as the Singapore's Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) to jointly develop further anti-allergy applications of the company's GM-080 bacteria.

About GM080:
GM080 has been shown through Phase II clinical trials in Taiwan to be effective in relieving allergy symptoms and improving the quality of life for allergy patients. GenMont has undertaken extensive research confirming the effectiveness of GM080 as a safe and natural anti-allergic product.

GM080 Features:
1. Resistant to gastric acid and bile; high adherence to intestinal wall
2. Continuous use for 1 month can reduce allergic symptoms by 40-50%
3. Continuous use for 3 months can reduce IgE level by 20-25%
4. Continuous use for 6 months can reduce the risk of allergy recurrences
5. Generally recognized as safe (GRAS) lactic acid bacterial strain is used for
production. No adverse effects shown upon consumption.

Evidence has shown consumption of GM080 by an expectant mother during late pregnancy (7-9 months into pregnancy) reduces the rate of fetal allergy.

Evidence has also shown that the consumption of GM080 for 6 months by the expectant mother reduces the likelihood of the new-born infant developing allergies later in life.

GM080 comes in either powder or solution form, and is produced in a cGMP-certified active pharmaceutical ingredient manufacturing plant in Taiwan.

About GMNL-33:
GMNL-33 has been shown to be effective for preventing a range of oral health conditions--including tooth plaque, periodontal or gum disease, and tooth decay-- that can cause halitosis, otherwise known as bad breath;

About Probiotic Bacteria:
As defined by the industry website www.usprobiotics.org, probiotics are "live microorganisms which when administered in adequate amount confer a health benefit on the host (FAO 2001)." Scientists are learning more each day about the role of microbes in keeping people healthy and the multitude of health benefits associated with consuming the right type and levels of probiotic microbes.

Research suggests that probiotic bacteria can reduce the risk of certain diarrhea-type illnesses, improve lactose digestion in lactose intolerant people, and improve immune function.
