Porsolt & Partners Pharmacology (Porsolt), the long established preclinical Contract Research Organization (CRO), has announced today (19^th March, 2009) its plans to expand Laboratory Operations complemented with concurrent expansion of its Business Development Team.

Porsolt commenced Phase One ofconstruction of a state of the art new laboratory on a 10 hectare development in Laval (France), in the first quarter of 2009. Phase One will see a new 60000 square foot facility completed early 2010. The new facility will offer increased capacity for Porsolt’s expanding cross-therapeutic area models and GLP safety pharmacology expertise.

Dr. Mark Duxon, Chief Executive Officer of Porsolt commented, “Continued growth in 2008, together with an increasing awareness in the Pharmaceutical Industry of Porsolt’s cross-therapeutic area expertise, requires Porsolt to be placed for sustained growth in the next 5-10 years. Our acquisition of a 10 hectare plot of land in close proximity to the existing laboratories will provide us a sustainable platform on which to grow in line with the demands of our clients. This will give us the critical capacity required to support changing client needs which include an increasing demand for access to secured capacity (platform deals) under the continuing umbrella of Porsolt’s hallmark ‘Scientist-to-Scientist’ branding. Indeed, we believe it is our commitment to quality and customer needs…..essentially providing a very personalized service……which has enabled us to grow while other preclinical CROs have receded against the backdrop of global financial difficulties.”

Porsolt concurrently announced the addition of two experienced PhD biologists from Big Pharma who will be permanently based in the United States to conduct US business development support. Dr. Martine Lemaire, Senior Director and Head of Business Development, commented, “As our laboratory services grow and as we implement a new expansion strategy, we feel it is essential to have experienced personnel based in the US to offer direct face-to-face client interaction. Indeed, we see this as further indication of our commitment to ‘Scientist-to-Scientist’ contacts with our clients; we want Porsolt to continue to be known for providing expertise and advice in addition to test services to the Pharmaceutical Industry.”

New business development headcount in the US will be further increased in line with expansion of the company in 2009 and 2010 and complements an existing team of five based in Paris, France.
