Santiago de Chile. B. Braun Medical Chile S.A. has inaugurated a new production plant for enteral nutrion on April 25, 2006. The new factory is the first B. Braun Excellence Center for the manufacture of enteral diets worldwide. B. Braun invested € 3,5m into the construction of the new factory. 136 employees work for B. Braun Medical Chile.
"I am very happy and proud to have achieved this dream", said General Manager Roberto Oetiker at the official inauguration event. "Our next steps are to continue developing products which will completely satisfy the demanding quality norms of global economy."
B. Braun Chile has been active in the field of enteral nutrition for a long time and is now looking back on 23 years of absolute leadership on this line in the Chilean market. After hard work in unison with experts in nutrition and health areas from public and private universities, ADN (Alimento Dietético Nutricional, produced in Chile) was developed in 1983, i.e. ADN (Nutritional Diet Food), which would widely satisfy the national market for this line of products was possible.
To date B. Braun Chile has an important variety of formulas with excellent organoleptic tolerance including polymeric formulas such as Nutricomp ADN, ADN Fibre, and Modular formulas such as Calcium Caseinate and Caloric Module. The line is completed by special formulas such as Diabetic ADN, Pediatric ADN and Renal ADN.
These enteral products are the basis of hospital clinical nutrition and are very adequately complemented with the nutritional parenteral line, where B. Braun is internationally recognized. B. Braun Chile is currently successfully exporting Nutricomp ADN in its different presentations to Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Cuba, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Venezuela, Asia-Pacific and Russia.
Adequate nutrition plays an important role in maintaining optimal health and improving clinical outcome. Investigations have shown that up to 40% of the patients in hospitals are malnourished. Thus, nutritional support is an essential element of treatment for patients not only in hospitals, but also in nursing homes and alternate site care. Enteral nutrition support is needed if the patient is unable, not allowed or not willing to take adequate nutrition from normal food.
