Amarin Technologies SA, a pharmaceutical company placed in Buenos Aires, Argentina, announces the approval of its Fentanyl Transdermal Delivery System in its country. The product is a drug-in-adhesive type, transparent and thin Fentanyl TDS, indicated for the management of severe pain in patients who require continuous opioid analgesia. This product is the first generic version of Duragesic approved out of USA. A patent application has been filed and approval is expected under PCT procedures. Amarin´s Fentanyl TDS was licensed to Sandoz in Latin America, who will begin commercialization in Argentina and has the product under registration in the remaining countries of the mentioned territory. Helm Pharmaceuticals GmbH is currently working on the registration application for Europe. Amarin is holding licensing discussions with potential partners for the commercialization of the product in USA and Canada. Amarin Technologies SA (www.amarintech.com) is an Argentinean company engaged in the development and licensing of transdermal and topical products under its proprietary technology. Amarin´s products include estradiol TDS, estradiol/norethisterone TDS, estradiol gel, diclofenac gels, diclofenac TDS and testosterone gel. Wyeth is currently commercializing estradiol TDS in South America under the name of Climaderm, and several other products of Amarin are being marketed by Laboratorios Beta in Argentina, and are under registration in other territories.
