ETHYPHARM's formulation of Tramadol SR Bid approved in Germany

Release issued 30th September 2004

Ethypharm, a pharmaceutical technology based company, focused on oral modified release technologies, announced today it obtained a marketing approval in Germany for its range of Tramadol's twice a day sustained release capsules, including 50 - 100 - 150 and 200 mg.

"This new marketing authorization of Tramadol SR complements Ethypharm's full range of analgesic products, ranking from WHO I to WHO III classification (World Health Organisation)," declared Dr Françoise Vauzelle Kervroëdan, Medical Affairs Director at Ethypharm. "It confirms our expertise in every area of pain therapy ranking from mild pain to intense pain, " she added.

In 2003, Ethypharm already licensed to Viatris its Tramadol Flashtab®, an innovative orodispersible formulation, which was recently launched in Great Britain.

Like for Ethypharm's morphine, the Tramadol SR pellets, presented in capsules, offers several advantages. By opening the capsules, it can be administered easily in patients who have swallowing difficulties by being mixed in food or given directly into gastric tubes.

Tramadol is currently one of the four most commonly prescribed analgesics worldwide and represents a market of approx. 120 M€ in Europe.
