Release issued 14th January 2004
(Fort Worth, TX) --- H. Paul Dorman, Chairman and CEO of DFB Pharmaceuticals, has officially announced hiring Magnus Precht as president of its newest acquisition--- Ithaca, New York-based Phyton Inc., a privately held specialized pharmaceutical company and world leader in the use of plant cell fermentation technology that produces, among others, a commercial source of paclitaxel, the active ingredient in one of the leading drugs for ovarian and breast cancer.
"I'm extremely excited to be a part of Phyton and DFB," Mr. Precht said. "DFB is a coherent organization with strong, thoughtful leadership, solid business sense, and focus on the importance of meshing a team that will work well together."
Headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, DFB Pharmaceuticals Inc. is a privately held corporation that provides technology- driven pharmaceutical products, outsourcing services, and licensing opportunities to the healthcare industry worldwide through its branded marketing affiliate organizations and contract partners.
Mr. Precht will lead Phyton's continuing efforts in the use of proprietary plant cell fermentation technology through its operations in Ithaca, New York, and Ahrensburg, Germany, to produce high-value medicines without the need for plant harvesting; elaborate chemical synthesis; or utilization of mammalian, yeast, or microbial cell organisms.
"Mr. Precht will be heading up the organization and its technology, leading the way for DFB and its affiliates to meet increasing worldwide demand for unique, effective treatments for patients," said Mr. Dorman. "He will play a major role in expanding our manufacturing service offerings, broadening our drug development capability, and bolstering our market strength."
Mr. Precht has a vast background in the biotech industry. He was most recently president of Dimeriq L.P., an Austin, Texas, consulting business that helps European biotech companies build their organizations and launch products in the United States. He also served as chief executive officer of Gene Regulation Laboratories in Boston, Massachusetts; was senior vice president of marketing and sales for Sensus Drug Development Corporation in Austin, now owned by Pfizer; and was executive vice president of marketing and sales for Interferon Sciences, Inc. He also served as vice president and general manager of Pharmica in Columbus, Ohio, now owned by Pfizer, where he launched Pharmacia's growth hormone, Genotropin.
Mr. Precht's education includes a Civilekonom, a business degree that resembles a United States Master of Business Administration, from the University of Uppsala in Uppsala, Sweden.
In a 1992, he wrote an Orphan Drug Grant Application for an insulin-like growth factor; the grant application achieved outstanding Federal Drug Administration (FDA) scoring and a $390,000 award. The grant was one of only four of its kind awarded that year by the FDA.
Mr. Precht will oversee a staff of 41 in Ithaca and 34 in Germany.
"We foresee growing Phyton into a fully-integrated biotechnology concern that will continue to develop and sell proprietary development services," said Mr. Precht, "while continuing DFB's core manufacturing services for pharmaceutical companies worldwide. Phyton will be an internal source for new drug technology for DFB's affiliate, HEALTHPOINT."
Fluent in English, German, and Swedish, Mr. Precht is a Swedish Air Force veteran.
Other DFB affiliates include HEALTHPOINT, Ltd., located in Fort Worth, a branded marketing organization and DPT Laboratories, Ltd., headquarters in San Antonio, an outsourcing service organization to the pharmaceutical industry. Visit www.dfb.com for additional information.
