Protherics PLC announces European deal for DigiFab with Beacon Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
Protherics PLC announced interim results for the six months ended 30 September 2003 on 2 December 2003 the full text of which can be seen on their website (www.protherics.com). The relevant section on DigiFab is as follows:- DigiFab - treatment for digoxin overdose Sales were £0.5 million for the first half year, close to the £0.6 million in the corresponding period last year. Sales are expected to increase significantly in the second half as we concentrate on supplying more DigiFab to the market now that the biting season' for CroFab is over. At the end of November, DigiFab sales were £2.3 million and we are on course for a much stronger second half. We have entered into a licensing agreement with Beacon Pharmaceuticals for the marketing of DigiFab in Europe. We are planning to submit the DigiFab file to the UK licensing authorities in mid 2004.
Beacon Pharmaceuticals Ltd is currently preparing the dossier for UK submission and will subsequently roll this out across Europe via the mutual recognition process. Beacon has marketing and distribution responsibility for DigiFab throughout Europe (excluding Scandinavia) and will sub-license to appropriate partners in some of these territories. DigiFab has been licensed for the reversal of digoxin toxicity by the FDA since August 2001 and is marketed in the US by Altana and in Australia and SE Asia by Fauldings. In Scandinavia DigiFab is licensed to Swedish Orphan. The current market has been estimated at $20 million.
