US Army Grants License for Skin Protectant Technology to DPT,

(San Antonio, TX) — John Feik, President and COO of DPT Laboratories, Ltd. has announced that its parent company, DFB Pharmaceuticals and its affiliates DPT (San Antonio, Tx. & Lakewood, N.J.) and Healthpoint, Ltd. (Ft. Worth, Tx.) have been granted a license for a patented topical skin protectant technology from the United States Army Medical Research & Materiel Command.

The skin protectant technology is currently approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a prescription pharmaceutical for military use only that, when used in conjunction with appropriate protective clothing, protects soldiers from skin exposure to chemical warfare agents. The cream contains polytetraflouroethylene resins, compounds that are similar to the substances that coat non-stick cooking utensils.

This technology represents the first FDA-approved prescription skin protectant drug designed to help the military guard against dangers from chemical warfare agents.

Although approved by the FDA for military use, DFB's Healthpoint affiliate will be pursuing discussions with regulatory agencies to determine necessary requirements for the existing military product to be labeled for use by first responders and consumers. Beyond that, Healthpoint will immediately begin to determine requirements to obtain approvals for the use of this technology as it relates to reducing the reoccurrence of contact dermatitis associated with exposure of skin to a variety of irritants including allergens such as poison ivy, oak and sumac, solvents, and bodily fluids.

The agreement was signed in September. "This licensing agreement is part of our continuing effort to expand and enhance our $14 million contact dermatitis franchise worldwide," stated Mr. Feik. "Such unique, patented prescription products complement DFB's expertise in semi-solid and liquid research, development, and manufacturing. The product also reaffirms our proficiency in licensing, sales, and marketing of novel skin and soft tissue specialty pharmaceutical products and technologies."
