Access announces European license agreement for Zindaclin

Release issued 30th May 2002

ACCESS PHARMACEUTICALS, INC. has announced that Strakan Group Ltd., their worldwide licensee for ResiDerm, has signed a Licensing Agreement granting exclusive marketing rights for Zindaclin for continental Europe to Fujisawa GmbH.

Fujisawa GmbH is a wholly-owned subsidiary and the European headquarters of Fujisawa Pharmaceutical Co., a leading multinational Japanese pharmaceutical company. Strakan launched Zindaclin onto the United Kingdom market in March 2002. Utilizing ResiDerm drug delivery technology, Zindaclin is a clindamycin phosphate/zinc complex for once- daily topical treatment of acne.

The ResiDerm topical delivery technology is designed to enhance the efficacy and reduce the systemic side effects of topically applied therapies for skin disorders. Under the terms of the Agreement Fujisawa GmbH will make upfront licensing and milestone payments, in addition to royalty payments on product sales.

Strakan's CEO, Harry Stratford, stated, "We are delighted to be in such a mutually rewarding partnership with a respected international player of the caliber of Fujisawa. Like them, we focus on bringing innovative products to the market for the treatment of unmet therapeutic needs in major markets. Zindaclin is a perfect example of our approach. United Kingdom sales of Zindaclin since launch have been very positive."

Zindaclin is currently awaiting approval in continental Europe. The registration dossier in the European Union is being reviewed under the Mutual Recognition Procedure. The first European launch is anticipated by the end of 2002.

Access Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is an emerging pharmaceutical company focused on developing both novel low development risk product candidates and technologies with longer-term major product opportunities.
