Release issued 25th September 2001
Sulidin® %1 Topical Gel contains nimesulide, a non- steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) agent with COX-2 selectivity and free radical activity of the sulfoanilide class. The anti-inflammatory potency of topical nimesulide is similar to or greater than indomethacin, diclofenac, piroxicam and ibuprofen in animal and human models.
To date, several hundred clinical studies with thousands of patients have been carried out with nimesulide, resulting in close to 1,000 publications. When compared with the toxicity of currently available NSAID's, nimesulide is likely to provide a safer therapeutic alternative, while being as efficacious as current agents, if not more so.
Sulidin® %1 Nimesulide Gel contains the Lamellar Promoting System (LPS(tm)) technology, patented by Embil, which is based on the concept that the lamellar structure, which lies within the interstitial spaces of the skin, has an affinity to similar structures. Using a lamellar structure as a delivery system facilitates the penetration of soluble active drug substances into the skin layers. Sulidin® delivers a fully soluble form of nimesulide into the skin using this technology. The lamellar hydrophobic structure protects against the direct staining of the hydrophobic phase that contains the soluble drug.
Sulidin® Gel is indicated for the topical treatment of a variety of conditions characterized by pain, inflammation and stiffness, such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, periarthritis, post traumatic or acute musculoskeletal disorders including tendonitis, tenosynovitis, bursitis, sprains, strains and lower back pain, as well as sports injuries.
In vitro percutaneous absorption experiments using Franz Diffusion Cells have shown that Sulidin® %1 Nimesulide Gel is significantly better absorbed through an artificial membrane than Aulin %3 and Nimulid %1 gels (Data on file)
Sulidin® %1 Gel is the first patented topical product containing Nimesulide to be approved for the Turkish market.
