KIT FOR THE DIAGNOSIS OF DISEASES INVOLVING ALTERATION OF THE INFLAMMATORY RESPONSE

Fundación Progreso y Salud
Kit for the detection of diseases that occur with alteration of the systemic inflammatory response or metabolic stress. Is based on new antibodies prepared by our group, which are capable of specifically detecting and blocking N-procalcitonin.

Full description

N-procalcitonin (N-PCT) is a marker of great importance due to its involvement in the process of sepsis. Its blockade may also result in the inhibition of related processes such as fever or anorexia in sepsis. Despite this, the systems of detection of N-PCT available nowadays are very nonspecific and do not allow the recognition of this single molecule because of the presence of cross-reactions with other molecules such as procalcitonin (PCT).

Therefore, there is a need for elements that allow detecting or blocking N-PCT in a specific way.

The present technology offer is a solution to this problem by the provision of antibodies showing a high specificity to N-PCT. It involves the obtention of said antibodies using small peptides derived from the fragmentation of N-PCT. As the antibodies bind specifically to N-PCT, they are suitable for the detection of N-PCT and hence, for the diagnosis of diseases which involve an alteration of the inflammatory response or metabolic stress. The antibodies have been tested in vivo in rats.

The antibodies prepared by our group may thus be used in the preparation of a kit for the detection of diseases that occur with alteration of the systemic inflammatory response or metabolic stress, such as sepsis, septic shock, cardiogenic shock, postoperative complications, peritonitis, transplantations, autoimmune diseases, obesity, diabetes, bacterian meningitis, neoplasy or neurodegenerative diseases.

Advantages of the offer

The use of peptides derived from the fragmentation of N-PCT allows the preparation of antibodies which specifically bind to N-PCT, thus providing a reliable way of detection of  diseases that involve an alteration of the inflammatory response or metabolic stress.

Domain of application

The present kit finds application in the detection of N-PCT, in particular in the diagnosis of diseases involving alteration of the inflammatory response or metabolic stress.
