Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptors (PPAR-alpha) are receptors directly related to the metabolism of lipids, making them a very interesting target for the treatment of diseases related to metabolic disorders such as dyslipidemia, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and obesity. Even though some compounds are already known and commercialized as activators of these receptors, it is still necessary to find further agonists which do not exhibit the secondary effects linked to the known compounds, in particular in terms of hepatotoxicity.
The new class of pyrazole derivatives here offered demonstrates selective affinity for these receptors, making them suitable for inducing satiety and controlling food intake, reducing body mass gain and regulating fat metabolism.
The active compounds are prepared through conventional methods. Their affinity for the PPAR-alpha in vitro and their activity to induce satiety in Wistar rats has been proven.
The research group is looking for a collaboration agreement to further develop the technology.
