Capsaicin plaster for neuropathic pains such as post-herpetic neuralgia, diabetic neuropathy, and so on.

Samyang is developing capsaicin patch for neuropathic pains such as post-herpetic neuralgia, diabetic neuropathy and so on. Capsaicin is delivered to the painful sites for three days with one plaster to specifically block the neuronal signal for pain.

Full description

Samyang's capsaicin plaster can sustainably deliver capsaicin to the dermis of painful sites for three days with one patch. The capsaicin specifically binds to the vanilloid receptor of the neuronal cell to deplete the neuronal signal of the pain. This kind of specific blockage of neuronal signal can effectively resolve the pain.

Initial application of capsaicin plaster may cause hot flash in the skin which would go away in a few hours. Samyang's capsaicin patch could be applied to the affected sites with great convenience. It could be applied without any preparation or pre-treatment.

In non-clinical dermatopharmacokinetic study, it was shown that capsaicin concentration was maintained for three days above certain levels. In non-clinical formalin-induced licking paw test, significant reduction of the paw-licking count was shown for three days. No skin irritation was observed in non-clinical toxicity test for single and multiple application of the Samyang's capsaicin plaster.

Based on the above non-clinical study results, Samyang is conducting phase I/II clinical study for neuropathic pain patients under Korean FDA IND. The clinical sample was manufactured in GMP manufacturing plant of Samyang. Samyang will initiate phase III clinical study in 2010 for specific indications among neuropathic pains.
