MDF004 AND MDF005, POLYPHENOLS WITH POTENT NEUROPROTECTANT ACTIVITY FOR THE TREATMENT OF ACUTE NEURONAL DAMAGE AND DISABILITY

NEURON BPh
MDF004 and MDF005 are natural phenolic antioxidants that rescue neurons from cell death in acute injury and reduce neurological deficits caused by ischemic damage to the brain.

Full description

MDF004 and MDF005, attenuate calcium overload, oxidative stress and cell death caused by excitotoxicity in culture. Both antioxidants also reduce oxidative stress and are neuroprotective after ischemia and, more importantly, they are able to attenuate the associated learning deficits.

NEURON BPh, employing cultures of cortical neurons, has assayed the ability of MDF004 and MDF005 to protect cells from moderate oxidative stress insults. These compounds attenuated neuronal death as well as the generation of ROS.

The company has found that the neuroprotection produced in the hippocampus by MDF004 and MDF005 alleviates functional deficits caused by brain ischemia in mice, as assessed by three key behavioural assays relevant to the integrity of this structure

NEURON has also found that spatial orientation related to the exploration of novel territories was affected by ischemia but is preserved by the administration of MDF004.

MDF004 and MDF005 rescue neurons from cell death in acute injury and reduce neurological deficits caused by ischemic damage to the brain. Therefore, these antioxidants may hold potential as therapeutic agents for the treatment of acute neuronal damage by preventing the cognitive disabilities which occur in humans as a consequence of stroke.
