Full description

Name of the inventor:
Jonathan M. Barasch A method of inducing the kidney epithelium formation is described. Methods of treating a subject with kidney failure, preserving a kidney for transplantation purposes are also proposed.

The method involves bringing mesenchymal precursor cells into contact with purified gpl30 receptor ligands in the presence of a growth factor. The regenerated kidney epithelium may then be transplanted into a subject with diminished kidney function. Effective kidney epithelium formation by signaling through the gp130 receptors has been elucidated.
