Name of the inventor: Taka-aki Sato A composition capable of inhibiting specific binding between a signal-transducing protein and a cytoplasmic protein is described. A method of identifying a compound capable of inhibiting specific binding between a signal-transducing protein and a cytoplasmic protein is also disclosed. The composition in effective amounts may be used to induce apoptosis in cancer cells and thereby inhibit the spread of cancer. The composition also finds use in inducing apoptosis in virus infected cells. Compositions that can serve as effective signal mediators of apoptosis have been disclosed.
