Cy Stein Topical administration of a modified oligonucleotide for the treatment of glaucoma is discussed. The oligonucleotide may be substituted or modified in its phosphate, sugar or base so as to decrease the intraocular pressure and thereby treat glaucoma. The modified oligonucleotide is a homopolymeric/heteropolymeric phosphorothioate or phosphorodithioate. The phosphorothioate is stereo regular or stereo non-regular.
The oligonucleotide is conjugated to a carbohydrate or glycan. The method is useful in the treatment of glaucoma like acute glaucoma, absolute glaucoma, chronic glaucoma, congenital glaucoma, juvenile glaucoma, narrow angle glaucoma, open angle glaucoma, and simplex glaucoma.
