Full description

Lead Inventor: Andrew R. Marks, M.D. Problem or Unmet Need: While progress has been made in the treatment of various cardiovascular diseases, the increasing incidence of heart failure (a syndrome resulting from long-term cardiac disease) in combination with an aging population demands better therapeutic and preventative strategies. Phosphodiesterase 4D deficiency in receptors that regulate calcium channel functioning in cells has recently been linked to increased heart failure and may be one such novel target for heart disease prevention and treatment. Details of the Invention: This invention is a pharmaceutical agent that potently targets ryanodine-receptor related phosphodiesterase activity in order to modulate calcium channel function in cells.
The agent has been shown to protect against heart failure in animal models by regulating phosphorylation activity and can also potentially be used for treatment of heart failure and other ryanodine receptor related disorders.
Applications and Advantages:
• Modulator of a novel receptor activity target in cardiac disease
• Highly potent
• Phosphodiesterase modulation can either increase or decrease phosphorylation activity, thus targeting a wide array of diseases and disorders
• Treatment or prevention of a number of ryanodine receptor associated diseases such as: o Cardiac disorders and diseases (irregular heartbeat disorders, sudden cardiac death, congestive heart failure, high blood pressure) o Skeletal muscular disorders and diseases (skeletal muscular disorders, muscular dystrophies, bladder disorders) o Cognitive disorders and diseases (Alzheimer’s disease, forms of memory loss, diabetes)
• The composition can also be coupled with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier
