Name of the inventor: Lloyd Greene The direction of progenitor cells along specific pathways of neuronal differentiation is discussed. A method for promoting differentiation of a neural stem cell or a neural progenitor cell in vivo or in vitro into a differentiated neural cell is performed by inhibiting activating transcription factor 5 (ATF5) in the cell. The differentiated neural cells may be transplanted into a subject to treat the nervous tissue degeneration. The method will promote a replenishable source of neurons which will help treat neurodegenerative and demyelinating conditions.
