Summary
Obese patients are unable to transport leptin from the blood into the brain because of the resistance at the blood brain barrier. Normal leptin is transported via receptor-mediated trancytosis. It is believed that the receptor or transporter is impaired in obese patients and that this prevents the entry of the normal leptin to the brain. The invention chemically modifies leptin to transport leptin to the brain independently of its receptor or transporter.
Market Value
This is a novel method of delivering leptin across the blood brain barrier and allows obese patients to lose weight and maintain and healthy weight.
