Provision of access to DNA samples of 16 common diseases to conduct association studies of specific single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and specific diseases
Full description
Function
Provision of access to DNA samples of 16 common diseases to conduct association studies of specific single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and specific diseases
Services provided
Access to DNA samples from 16 common diseases: Type I diabetes, type II diabetes, asthma, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, migraine, hypertension, coronary artery disease, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, and rheumatoid arthritis
More than 500 samples per disease for most diseases and a common panel of 6000 healthy controls
Customers may request to genotype any number of SNPs on any number of samples (cases and controls)
Genotyping is performed in a central laboratory and included within the service (DNA is not shipped to customers)
Advantages
Family history, disease characterization, drug treatments, efficacy and adverse events, recorded in an electronic database. All samples were collected using strict and standardized clinical criteria from a homogeneous population
All samples were collected under the appropriate ethical guidelines including proper informed consent and approval of ethical committees (IRB)
All samples were collected in Israel from the Ashkenazi Jewish population significantly increasing the genetic and environmental homogeneity of the samples
