Dry eye is a condition that affects the lives of millions of people on a daily basis; in the UK alone as many as 7% of the total population suffer from the condition and although environmental factors such as dry air, allergies and extended computer use may exacerbate the condition, they are not the cause.
For the management of dry eye, the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) recommends education, environmental control and artificial tears in the first instance.
TClair is the new opthalmic solution indicated for the relief of dry eye.
Manufactured on behalf of Sinclair Pharma, an internationally based speciality pharmaceutical company, this product adds value and diversity to the range of niche pharmaceutical products already within the product portfolio.
Although the product is indicated is for dry eye, tired eye is the pre-cursor to dry eye and thus this product can be positioned as a preventative measure for both tired eyes and a treatment for dry eyes. Core messages aimed at eye care practitioners include:

Disease overview
Dry eye is a term used to describe a range of conditions caused by tear deficiency, excessive evaporation or a combination of both that leads to a physical and functional breakdown of the tear film.
Normally the tear film is constantly refreshed by blinking, approx. every 10 seconds, and this prevents the tear film from breaking down. However, with dry eye sufferers, the tear film can no longer provide enough nourishment (in the form of oxygen, glucose, salts and minerals) or protection to the surface of the eye, and artificial tears are needed to help relieve symptoms associated with the disease.
Symptoms include itching, irritation, light sensitivity, blurred vision, dryness and foreign body sensation.
The tear film is a complex structure protecting the sensitive and delicate ocular surface within the eye. Once broken down, the ocular surface is exposed and marks the start of a cyclical process. The disease can be progressive and if left untreated, dry eye can lead to more serious problems such as temporary impaired vision and increased sensitivity to light.
