Full description

SPHR900 is indicated for the treatment of herpes simplex virus (HSV) type 1 infections. It is a topical composition based on extracts of plants suitably selected to ensure anti-herpes type 1 activity. SPHR900 has antiviral, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, analgesic and emollient properties. It accelerates lesion healing, reduces pain and irritation, lowers the risk of virus transmission and spreading of the infection, reduces the risk of bacterial super-infections, and also enhances the natural immune system response to fight herpes infections.

SPHR900 is formulated as a soothing gel, packaged in convenient single-use vials, allowing for easier, sterile applications. The gel is spread over the infected area and generates a protective biofilm over the lesion, preventing spreading. SPHR900 has an agreeable taste and aroma and provides a significant masking effect making HSV infections less visible.

Disease overview

HSV is an icosahedral, nuclear-replicating, enveloped virus. HSV-1 infections manifest as painful, irritating blisters in the labial region that further develop into crusts and ulcers, which can last up to 2-3 weeks. Symptoms are numerous and can include fatigue, itching and burning, fever, malaise, sore throat, swelling and redness, muscle aches, and neck pain. There is currently no cure for herpes, and it is transmitted from person to person. Herpes treatments consist of antivirals, such as nucleoside analogs; alternative treatments, such as herbs and dietary supplements and over-the-counter products, which aim only at symptom relief.

Stage of development

SPHR900 is currently classified as a Class I Medical Device. It will be reclassified within a few months.
