Sinlice is a new anti-lice composition specifically formulated as a dry-on, suffocation-based product.

Sinclair Pharmaceuticals
Sinlice is a new anti-lice composition specifically formulated as a dry-on, suffocation-based product. It has been designed to adhere to hair shafts and keratins.

Mechanism of action

Sinlice forms a persistent film that envelops the hair shaft and lice.

Full description

Sinlice kills all stages in the head lice life-cycle, including the adults, nymphs and eggs; SPHR980 also prevents oviposition (egg laying) by head lice exposed to the product.

Sinlice responds to a great need in the market for safer and more convenient alternatives than traditional neurotoxin-based lice treatments that are known to cause side effects. It also acts as a hair conditioner and is safe enough to be used on people of all ages, even very young children. Unlike the neurotoxin based lice treatments, which are showing increasing rates of drug resistance and thus treatment failures, Sinlice does not show drug resistance because it is based on a suffocation action.

The formulation consists of well-known ingredients that have been chosen based on their tolerability and efficacy of suffocation action. SPHR980 contains: xanthan gum, glycerine, petrolatum, VP/hexadecane copolymer and pectin.

Conventional lice treatments come with complicated associated cleaning steps, which are viewed as a heavy burden and are often incomplete SPHR980, on the other hand, has a very easy application procedure and can be washed off with a common everyday shampoo. Moreover, it does not contain alcohol and thus will not induce a secondary scalp infection.

Sinlice has many significant strengths:

o uses a new suffocation action
o kills all stages in the head lice life-cycle including eggs, nymphs and adults
o prevents oviposition (egg laying) by head lice exposed to the product
o does not develop drug resistance because it is based on a suffocation action
o does not contain alcohol and thus will not cause a secondary scalp infection
o is extremely safe and can be used on all people, even young children
o includes only well-known tolerated compounds
o has clinical evidence that proves it is 100% effective
o has clinical evidence that shows it does not cause side effects

Disease overview

There are three kinds of lice: head lice, body lice and pubic lice. Body lice can transmit diseases, such as typhus, relapsing fever, and trench fever. Lice are usually acquired by direct head-to-head contact with an infested person's hair, but sometimes lice may be transmitted via shared combs, hats and other hair accessories. They feed on skin, blood, sebaceous secretions and feathers, and they have a life expectancy of around 30 days.

Head lice are epidemic all over the world and most common in children between 4-12 years-old. Incidence is about hundreds of million cases a year while prevalence in the general population is 1-3%. However an increase in most industrialized countries has been noticed and prevalence has grown 7 times between 1971 and 1991.

Patent information

It should be possible to patent this product. There are no identified existing patents that prevent product commercialization.

Searches were performed using the main ingredients Glycerin, Petrolatum, Hexadecene copolymer as search terms together with lice, nits, pediculus humanus capitis. No relevant prior art was found, although it is well-known that conditioners can be used to treat head lice. Patent protection may be available for this combination of ingredients for the treatment of lice infestation, but a surprising efficacy will have to be demonstrated and the preparation must not be called a conditioner.

Type of business relationship sought

Marketing companies are required to sell Sinlice in key territories around the world.
