Polymorphisms in interleukin-1 (IL-1) genes as a predictor of Alzheimer's disease. Researchers have discovered that by using known methods of genotyping they are able to predict increased risks of Alzheimer's disease. These methods involve investigation of the IL-1A and/or the IL-1B banding pattern on a gel, or similar investigation of the genotype at the IL-1A and/or IL-1B locus. Additionally, using this technology, kits have been developed for determining a person's genetic predisposition for Alzheimer's disease development. These kits comprise means for investigating the genotype of an individual at the IL-1A and/or IL-1B locus, and optionally, other convenient tools which further the investigation.
