Potent and Safe Anti-Itch Product

Cosmederm Technologies
Non-steroidal OTC or potential Rx anti-itch product

Mechanism of action

inhibition of C-nociceptors by strontium compound

Full description

TriCalm is a turn-key potent OTC anti-itch system providing potent and immediate itch relief by utilizing a strontium based compound. Well-controlled human clinical trials conducted by Cosmederm and by non-Cosmederm investigators demonstrate the strontium can selectively suppress the symptoms of sensory irritation (stinging, burning and itching) without affecting other cutaneous sensations.  These studies demonstrate that topically applied strontium can substantially suppress itch caused by a variety of chemical irritants, including histamine, as well as itch triggered by an IgE-medicated allergic response (Type I hypersensitivity) which contributes to the pathogenesis and itching of atopic dermatitis and other itch-associated conditions.

Additionally, reports from physicians as well as clinical observations at Cosmederm suggest that strontium can also rapidly surrpress itch caused by delayed-type allergies (DTH - Type IV hypersensitivity) that cause poison ivy/oak/sumac, "jewelry (nickel) allergy"; neuropathy-associated itching caused by healing wounds and would dressing adhesives and other irritating skin conditions.  However, well controlled clinical trials are required to confirm these clinical reports.

TriCalm is equally effective for treating itching on animals.

Cosmederm is currently conducting proof of principle studies to determine the viability a more potent version of TriCalm as an Rx product.  go to www.cosmederm.com/download for published articles
