Active Biotech is developing an orally active synthetic chemical compound, ABR-215757, for the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). ABR-215757 belongs to the quinoline-3-carboxamide family of substances to which also other candidate drugs in our portfolio belong.
ABR-215757 has been shown in pre-clinical studies to be a potent oral therapeutic agent in experimental SLE and RA and shows a favorable toxicological profile. The first clinical study with Active Biotech's candidate drug ABR-215757 has been successfully concluded. The phase I study, which comprised a total of 30 healthy volunteers, was performed in cooperation with the Phase I unit at the Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm.
The results show that ABR-215757 is very well tolerated in all of the studied dose levels, both as single and repeated dose, and that it is well suitable to be given as an oral, daily treatment. A continuation of the Phase I study including both SLE and RA patients is ongoing.
Active Biotech is seeking an early strategic liaison for the development and commercialisation of ABR-215757.
The Intellectual Property protection of ABR-215757 is strong and it is covered by the following patent applications: US 09/296,519 filed on April 22, 1999 - Patent No. 6,077,851 (expiry date: 2019-04-22) PCT/SE99/00676 filed on April 26, 1999 - Said PCT application is validated in a number of designated national states and regional patent systems. The Written Opinion drawn by the International Preliminary Examining Authority reveals that the invention is considered to fulfill the requirements of novelty, inventive step and industrial applicability.
Active Biotech seeks a strategic partner for this project to ensure timely development of the compound. Terms for this collaboration can be flexible and Active Biotech is willing to discuss creative solutions
