Phase I Clinical Development of AP1189: Targeting Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Rheumatoid Arthritis
Full description
Introduction/Background
Action Pharma A/S operates as a research and development focused biotechnology company. It discovers and develops new drugs and treatment concepts to treat cardiovascular disease and inflammatory diseases, as well as metabolic diseases, such as type-II diabetes and obesity.
Aims/Hypothesis
Action Pharma is developing AP1189, an oral anti-inflammatory compound for the treatment of inflammatory diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease and rheumatoid arthritis.
Research
AP1189 is an oral anti-inflammatory compound under development for the treatment of inflammatory diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease and rheumatoid arthritis.In-vivo experimental animal studies have shown that AP1189 possesses beneficial effects in several distinct animal models on inflammatory diseases, such as systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and collagen-induced arthritis (CIA). A first-in-man clinical trial in healthy volunteers (phase 1A) is planned for 2010. In-vitro target characterization of AP1189 indicates that the compound acts as a positive allosteric modulator (PAM) of the melanocortin receptor subtype 1.
Conclusion
AP1189, a compound targeted inflammatory bowel disease and rheumatoid arthritis, has completed CMC, toxicology and safety programmes and will enter clinical development in 2010.
