Purified Microfine Red Sanders Wood Powder having High Drug and Colour Values: Use in Skin Therapeutics
Full description
Introduction/Background
Red sanders wood is a precious crude drug in the ayurvedic system of treatment, however it is very hard and tough, and therefore very difficult to pulverize. Pulverizing by the conventional technologies leads to generation of a very high temperature which in turn leads to high ash in the sanders wood powder. Due to the high temperature other desirable drug properties and also lipid values get adversely affected. Red sanders wood powder also contains lot of impurities such as particles of sapwood and dilapidated parts of wood etc.
Aims/Hypothesis
There is thus a need for the development of a method for the production of high quality red sanders wood powder.
Research
Under the new technology comparatively high quality red sanders wood powder can now be produced. Red sanders powder so produced will be rich in drug and colour values. The powder will be microfine and free from ash and other impurities. Red sanders wood powder is widely used for directly applying on face and skin to remove chicken pox marks, marks from burns, skin discolorations and pimples. It is also used to add in several drugs, processed foods, cosmetics and toiletries. The powder can be exported in large quantities as a value added item. The technology for microfine pulverizing of red sanders wood was developed with the support of DSIR under the ministry of science and technology.
Conclusion
The new red sanders powder is microfine, pure and free from ash. It looks bright and maintains the original odour. It has high drug and colour values and hence much more acceptable in the domestic and export markets. As it is pure it finds more applications in the ayurvedic system of treatment.
