Transgenic mice for screening compounds with therapeutic potential against pain, hyper-thyroidism or obesity. These transgenic mice over-express DREAM, a transcriptional repressor

We have produced transgenic mice over-expressing the transcriptional repressor DREAM under spatial and temporal control. DREAM regulates the expression of many genes and our different transgenic mice show different defects in specific functions such as:

• Obesity with elevated blood insulin and lipid levels.
• Colloid goitre (hyper-thyroidism) with chronic follicular hyper-stimulation.
• Hyper-algesia (i.e. hyper sensitiveness to pain) for thermal and internal pain.

We can also offer primary cell cultures of transgenic hippocampus and cerebellum neurons showing insensitiveness to calcium.

The use of DREAM mutants in transgenic animals is unique and represents a well characterized molecular mechanism, thus potential therapeutical hits may be easily traced in terms of the molecular basis of their activity.

This knowledge is based on the establishment of mice lines.
