Monoclonal Complement Factor H Antibodies: Screening of Individuals at Risk for Developing AMD

MBM ScienceBridge GmbH
Monoclonal Complement Factor H Antibodies: Screening of Individuals at Risk for Developing AMD

Full description

Introduction/Background

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness in the elderly.

Aims/Hypothesis

There is a need for the development of novel methods for screening of individuals at risk for developing AMD

Research

Scientists at the GeorgAugustUniversity produced monoclonal antibodies which react with the polymorphic variant of human complement Factor H (FH402(His), a marker for age related macular degeneration. These peptide specific antibodies specifically react with the polymorphic variants of human complement Factor H (either FH402Y or FH402H). Therefore they can be used for the screening of individuals at risk for developing AMD, as well as for the functional characterization of complement Factor H variants. Because there is the chance to treat AMD with a new drug (anti VEGF antibodies) nowadays this would increase the value of a new diagnostic screening assay.

Conclusion

We have generated monoclonal complement factor H antibodies.

Relevance/Opportunity

We are looking for companies, who are interested in licensing these antibodies for selling them to industrial and scientific institutions or for developing advanced diagnostic tests and therapeutic solutions.

Development status

Preclinical
