Methods and Composition Associated with Administration of an Extract of Ganoderma Lucidium: Use as an Immune Modulator

Methods and Composition Associated with Administration of an Extract of Ganoderma Lucidium: Use as an Immune Modulator

Full description

Introduction/Background

Ganoderma Lucidium (Reishi) has been used traditional Chinese medicine for promoting good health, perpetual youth and longevity.

Aims/Hypothesis

We are investigating the potential of extracts of Ganoderma lucidum (Reishi) polysaccharides in stimulating the expression of inflammatory cytokines and exerting immunomodulating activities.

Research

The present disclosure refers to the field of immunology and cellular biology. Extracts of Ganoderma Lucidium have been shown to mediate immunomodulating events associated with IL-1 gene expression, stimulate the expression of an inflammatory cytokine, modulate protein kinase pathways; induce a Toll-Like Receptor (TLR), modulate differentiation of a mononulear cell and enhance cytotoxicity of an NK cell against NK-sensitive tumour cell.

Conclusion

This invention discloses the composition and use of an immune modulator. The modulator could be applied for dietary supplement or new drug development, such as for anti-viral, anti-tumour, or vaccine adjuvant. However, more research is required to verify the new drug application.
