CHELTENHAM, England, April 11CHELTENHAM, England, April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Results from a survey released today by national sick children's charity, WellChild, shows that lawyers and academics raised the most money for charity with accountants among the least successful fundraisers. The survey of over 800 runners who raised money for WellChild, Official Charity of last year's Flora London Marathon, also revealed some interesting facts about the fittest professionals. Surprisingly the groups with the fastest average times were all people with sedentary jobs - administrative and secretarial staff were the fastest taking on average four hours to complete the course with accountants and IT consultants in second place at four hours 15 minutes. Slowest were housewives at five hours 15 minutes but staff at fitness centres came a disappointing second to last at exactly five hours.
When it came to raising money for the charity, lawyers and academics put in the strongest performances with individual totals averaging at GBP 2,500. Not surprisingly the bankers came second at GBP 2,300 with all other professions following close behind. Company managers raised on average GBP 200 per person more than company directors who tied with housewives. WellChild was happy to note that although health and social care professionals managed to raise the smallest amount, it was still an impressive average of GBP 1,500 per person and many of these runners are the people working hard on a daily basis to care for sick children and the families in hospitals and the community.
In order of the most money raised for WellChild the professions ranked as follows;
1) Lawyers/Academics & Students 2) Bankers 3) Company Managers 4) Emergency Services & Armed Forces personnel / Administrative & Secretarial Staff / Fitness Staff 5) IT Consultants 6) Company Directors / Housewives 7) Accountants / Teachers 8) Health and Social Care Professionals

Chief Executive Kedge Martin said,
"There are more children than ever before in the UK suffering from a serious or long-term illness, so the efforts people made to raise money to support our work has never been more needed. We wish 2008's WellChild runners all the best and hope for a cooler day than last year!"
Among the impressive individual performances was Tim Rogers, who managed to run the race in just five hours 50 minutes despite wearing the fun WellChild Children's nurse costume, which is 14 ft tall, and weighs around two stone.
