Novel technological inventions for the prevention and treatment of staphylococcal infections in humans and animals.

The company in detail

Profile

Immunology Laboratories, Inc. (ImmLab) has patented and patent pending novel technological inventions for the prevention and treatment of staphylococcal infections in humans and animals. ImmLab has been granted U.S. patent # 6,929,798 dated 08/16/2005 and patent # 7,329,409 dated 02/12/2008 from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for its "Compositions and Methods for Treatment of Microbial Infections". ImmLab was granted European patent # 1487273 on 06/26/2008, Japanese patent # 4304077 on 05/01/2009 and Hong Kong patent ser # 05102303.3. Applications have also been filed in five individual European countries of which German patent 603 25 945.6.08 has been granted. ImmLab is primarily focused on the treatment of people infected with Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). The technology is particularly applicable for the treatment and prevention of infections by antibiotic resistant strains of S. aureus, including hospital-acquired infections. Subsequently, a primary target population to benefit from ImmLab's technology is the group of individuals at increased risk of exposure to an infection by S. aureus strains, especially antibiotic resistant strains such as methicillin-resistant strains (MRSA) and vancomycin-insensitive strains (VISA). The technology will also provide a vital benefit for people facing any non-urgent invasive treatment, including elective surgery. ImmLab's products have important applications in the dairy industry by providing a non-antibiotic option for preventing staphylococcal infection of the udder (mastitis) in dairy calves. Other animal uses include the treatment of S. aureus skin infections in small animals (pets and fur bearing animals). Additional inventions in our pipeline will include products for the treatment and prevention of infections by antibiotic- resistant strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. Pneumoniae). ImmLab's technologies make it possible to manufacture preparations that contain biologically active components derived from S. aureus. The biologically active components in ImmLab's therapeutic preparations activate both innate and acquired immunity, including humoral and cell-mediated responses. Treatments may be carried out efficiently and economically with nasal drops or injections for human use. Animal treatments will be by injections. Please see our website at www.immlab.com for more details.

Partnering strategy/interests

ImmLab is a small, closely held Alabama, U.S.A. corporation. We have substantially completed the preclinical stage. Due to the substantial capital requirements, relative to the limited financial resources currently available to ImmLab, accomplishment of the mission (although quite probable over time) is projected to be a very lengthy process. And during this lengthy time period, the ultimate beneficiaries of the available technology may remain untreated. According to a July 13, 2005 Wall Street Journal article, a Pennsylvania state agency conducted a study regarding hospital-acquired infections. The article indicated that, "Extrapolating from the Pennsylvania data to the rest of the country suggests that more than 125 people a day are dying from hospital-acquired infections with an associated $50 billion of related hospital charges every year

Out-licensing

Immunology Laboratories, Inc. has developed a novel vaccine with immunomodulation activity which is derived from the lysates of the Company's deposited, patent protected strains of S. aureus isolated from natural infection in cattle. More
