On January 9, 2006, Protein Design Labs and its wholly-owned subsidiary ESP Pharma became known as PDL BioPharma. The transition to a new name coincides with the integration of the company's former subsidiary, ESP Pharma into Protein Design Labs, creating a single organization and operating structure, now known as PDL BioPharma. PDL BioPharma has chosen this new name to better reflect its status as a commercial biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering, developing and marketing innovative therapies for serious or life-threatening illnesses.
