Biorthex was founded in 1996, and completed the first tranche of its IPO in December 2000. In August 2001, Biorthex received CE marking and ISO certification for its Actipore PLF system, which was launched in September 2001. In January 2002, Biorthex sold its SpineCor business to The SpineCorporation. A proposed merger between Biorthex and Scient'x, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ideal Medical Products, was abandoned in June 2002. At the same time, Biorthex announced a company restructuring to focus its efforts on two major projects: the start of clinical trials for the Actipore PLF device in the United States and the upcoming launch of the Actipore ACF device. This was followed by the launch of Biorthex's second product, the Actipore ACF system, in July 2002.
