DeveloGen was founded in 1997 by Prof. Dr. Peter Gruss and Prof. Dr. Herbert Jaeckle of the Max Planck Institute and Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Driever of The University of Freiburg, Germany, and the experienced entrepreneur Dr. Herbert Stadler. In 1998, DeveloGen started operations with Dr. Herbert Stadler as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). In 2000, DeveloGen merged with HepaVec, a gene delivery and liver disease biotechnology company. In 2001, DeveloGen completed a 40 million Euro private financing round led by Dresdner Kleinwort Capital and Techno Venture Management.
