On July, 1, 2004, Patterson Dental announced that it has changed its corporate name to Patterson Companies. The new corporate name was adopted to reflect Patterson's expanding base of business, which now encompasses the veterinary and rehabilitation supply markets, as well as its traditional base of operations in the dental supply market. Patterson's operating units will continue to be Patterson Dental Supply , Webster Veterinary Supply and AbilityOne Products. Patterson Dental was founded in 1877 and has over 125 years of experience providing service to dental professionals. In July 2001, Patterson Dental purchased the assets of J. A. Webster. The acquisition became a reportable business segment of Patterson Dental.
