Oy Leiras Finland Ab is now part of the European Nycomed
Group. The roots of Leiras in Finland date back to 1911, and
since 1946 the company has been called Leiras. Over the
decades, we have worked in close cooperation with Finnish
healthcare professionals and have established a well-known
position as a reliable and competent partner for the medical
and pharmaceutical community in our country.
Our position on the Finnish market is based not only on the
long history and strong Leiras brand, but also on our
skills in successfully introducing several products from
different
licensors. We are committed to cooperating closely with our
licensors in order to make every product a success in
Finland. Here our in-depth market knowledge and experience
of working with a variety of licensors is a key factor in our
success.
Our strong areas with dedicated sales force and marketing
networks cover GPs, hospital specialists and pharmacies in the
following therapy groups:
* cardiovascular diseases
* osteoporosis
* arthrosis
* special products for hospital usage (i.e. cardiology, soft
tissue surgery, endocrinology and gastroenterology)
In Self Care, we are clearly the second biggest marketer in
Finland, with products for cough & cold, osteoporosis and
vitamins as our strongest areas.
We are one of the biggest subsidiaries of Nycomed.
In 2004 we were ranked number eight in terms of revenue and
number three in terms of volume in the Finnish

Rx portfolio:
* Diabetes (type 2 ): DPP-IV inhibitors + other new approaches.
* Cardiovascular disease: hypertension; cholesterol
lowering drugs and antihypertensives
* Gastroenterological disease: proton pump inhibitors;
TNF-like products
* CNS disease: new modern epilepsy drugs, new Alzheimer's
disease drugs, anti-psychotics, anti-depressants,
Parkinson's disease disease, modern migraine drugs (NOT
triptans)
* Hospital sector:
- i.v. antibiotics
- semi modern cancer drugs - antineoplastics (EPH 3 group
L01X)
- adjunctive products for cancer - immunostimulating
agents, new antiemetics, immunosuppressive agents
* OTC portfolio:
- topical creams/ointments containing some active
pharmaceutical ingredient (for skin infections, acne,
psoriasis)
