In 1947, Grete Broschek, Otto Broschek and Herbert Broschek set up Gebro Broschek KG and started manufacturing the injection preparations Novanaest®-purum and Novanaest®-S. In 1954, a licence agreement with Zyma in Nyon (Switzerland) started a cooperation in the field of self-medication which is ongoing in the form of Novartis-Gebro. 1974 saw the establishment of the subsidiary Zyma-Gebro, followed in 1976 by the establishment of Gebro Trading, Geneva, which became Gebro Pharma AG (Switzerland) in 1977. Also in 1976, Gebro acheived the first foreign registration of a Gebro product: Xyloneural® in Germany. In 1996, Novartis Consumer Health Gebro succeeded Zyma-Gebro and continues to market prescription-free Novartis products in Austria from the Fieberbrunn site. In 1999, Gebro and its Swiss subsidiary both adopted the joint name “Gebro Pharma”. In 2002, another subsidiary was founded, in Barcelona, Spain - Laboratorios Gebro Pharma.
