Sanochemia has developed a patented process for the production of synthetic Galantamine (the active pharmaceutical ingredient in the Alzheimer's medication Reminyl), and the company is also a provider of contrast media for imaging diagnostics. Sanochemia Pharmazeutika was founded on November 13th 1990. In 1995 Sanochemia made a patent application for synthetic Galantamin process, which was granted in 1996. In 1997, Sanochemia formed collaborations with Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) and Shire Pharmaceuticals. In 1998, Sanochemia merged with Waldheim Pharmazeutika, and in 1999 the company gained a stock market listing. In 2000, Sanochemia acquired a 50% stake in Goldham Pharma, later raised to 75%. 2000 also saw the launch of Iopamidol (the company's first generic contrast medium) in Germany and Austria. In 2001 Sanochemia registered the Alzheimer's medication Reminyl (containing Galantamine) in the USA, and founded Sanochemia UK. The registration of synthetic Galantamine in the EU was achieved in 2002, and Sanochemia Diagnostics International was founded in Germany.
