
Yissum is the technology transfer company of the University of Jerusalem, responsible for the protection, promotion and marketing of its technologies and expertise.
Yissum has marketed the University’s technology for over 44 years and has granted more than 250 technology licenses, the successfully commercialized products now generate almost $1 billion each year. Yissum was established in 1964 to exploit the ‘inventiveness’ of its talented staff and since then has started up 60 spin-off companies.
As the legal owner of the University’s intellectual property, Yissum has its own legal and financial departments and works closely with the researchers and staff based in the University to ensure the technologies are accessible and commercially viable by the industry’s researchers.
The technologies protected by Yissum cover a wide range of industrial and therapeutic areas, including nanotechnology, medicine and pharmaceuticals, agriculture and nutrition, water and environmental, computer science and homeland security.
Yissum’s continuous supply of promising research projects are generated from the University’s vast research base, which is funded by a research budget of $77 million and supported by a staff network of approximately 1, 400 senior faculty members.
