Diamyd Medical has its origins in Synectics Medical, which was founded by CEO Anders Essen-Möller in 1976. At the same time as Synectics Medical, which was then traded on the Stockholm Stock Exchange's OTC list, was acquired by Medtronic US, the shareholders were offered shares in what is today Diamyd Medical. Diamyd Medical's business idea is to use its competence and contact network within immunology, biotechnology and business development to identify and develop pharmaceutical projects through Phase II clinical trials. Thereafter, partnering will be sought with larger pharmaceutical companies for further commercialization. Development and marketing of related diagnostic tests and reagents may be undertaken to promote contact with researchers and to prepare the market for subsequent pharmaceutical product launches.
