ThromboGenics was founded in Dublin, Ireland, in 1998 by Professor Désiré Collen and Randall Moreadith. Professor Collen is a world renowned expert in cardiovascular disease. His laboratory was the first to produce clinical supply of tissue plasminogen activator, also known as t-PA, one of the most effective drugs for thrombolytic therapy of acute myocardial infarction. This molecule was licensed to Genentech in exchange for royalties on worldwide sales. ThromboGenics closed a financing round in 2001 with East Hill Management in Boston. In May 2003, ThromboGenics established a US headquarters in New York.
