ALTANA Pharma was founded in 1873 as Byk, then in 1917 Byk merged with Paul Gulden & Co. forming Byk-Guldenwerke Chemische Fabrick. Then in 1977 Altana was created as a strategic management holding company with the Pharmaceutical Division, ALTANA Pharma based in Konstanz. ALTANA Pharma's strategy is to conduct its own research to secure the company's world-wide market position and ensure that doctors and patients are always supplied with the very latest products. The company's aim of ensuring the best quality of life for patients can be met only if the company's researchers develop innovative drugs to combat diseases for which no suitable treatment exists yet.
