Berlex Laboratories was founded in the US in 1979 by acquiring certain assets of the Internal Medicine division of Cooper Laboratories in New Jersey. In 1990, Berlex expanded into biotechnology with the acquisition of Codon and certain assets of Triton Biosciences, both located in the San Francisco area. By 1993, all Berlex research was consolidated in Richmond, California. Berlex widened its business focus to include diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals in 1999 with the acquisition of Diatide Berlex now has more than 2000 employees. Berlex aims to improve the quality of life for patients and their families and ensure an innovative portfolio balanced between current products and future pipeline. The company seeks to acquire technologies that are strategically relevant and commercially viable and also to design and support development activities that effectively transform technologies into products of recognized value.
